Leg 52: Big Chute Marine Railway to Midland, ON

The Perch rides the Big Chute Marine Railway on leg 52 of our Great Loop. Big Chute is lock 44 on the Trent-Severn. Its carriage rides along a railroad track and submerges into the water so boats can drive aboard. Then, the carriage runs along the track and carries the boats out of the water, across a road, and down a hill before dropping them back in the water on the other side! Leg 52 also included the Port Severn Lock which is the last lock station on the Trent-Severn. We arrive in Georgian Bay to continue our adventure!

America’s Great Loop is a 6,000 mile boating adventure of a lifetime. Great Loopers cruise their own boats along the route, following the waterways up the U.S. east coast, into the New York and Canadian Canals, through the Great Lakes, down the inland rivers, and across the Gulf of Mexico. America’s Great Loop Cruisers’ Association is dedicated to providing information and inspiration for those actively cruising, planning for, or dreaming about a Great Loop adventure.
